A government delegation from China, led by the Vice Mayor of the Fengxian district in Shanghai, Ni Yao Ming, met the Chairman of the Board of Borouge Pte, Rashed Saud Al Shamsi and other members of the Borouge management in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, on May 12 and 13, 2009.
Borouge, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, is currently investing in a new logistics hub and compounding plant in the seaport district of Fengxian in Shanghai.
The logistics hub will distribute over 600,000 tonnes of polyolefins (polypropylene and polyethylene) annually from Borouge’s expanded facilities in Ruwais in Abu Dhabi. Polyolefin polymers are used in a wide range of applications including extruded pipes, wires and cables, automotive components, household appliances and advanced packaging. The 70,000 sqm facility, which will mainly serve the Chinese market, will be fully operational by mid-2010.
The 30,000 sqm Compound Manufacturing Unit (CMU) also being built by Borouge in Fengxian will produce 50,000 tonnes of compounds each year specifically for the Chinese automotive and domestic appliances industries. The plant, which has expansion capabilities for 80,000 tonnes per year, will also be operational by mid-2010.
"China is on track to be the world’s largest polyolefins market by the middle of the next decade and Borouge wants to be part of this growth,” says Rashed Saud Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Board of Borouge’s Marketing Company based in Singapore. “We are pleased to welcome the delegation to Abu Dhabi to learn about our significant investments in Ruwais. We value the visit and look forward to a successful partnership in Shanghai.”
