Borouge, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, was one of the leading sponsors of the Abu Dhabi Industrial Award 2012 organized by the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT). Awards were presented to 35 excelling students, and honouring their achievements is in line with Borouge’s social responsibility encouraging young UAE national students in their pursuit of academic excellence in industry.
The Award ceremony was held on June 18, 2012, under the patronage and presence of HE Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology. The event took place at the Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT) Technology Park in Abu Dhabi and was attended by the HCT higher management and academic staff, in addition to representatives of industry leaders and executives and sponsors of the Award including ADNOC and its Group of Companies.
“Supporting UAE national students in their pursuit of excellence in industrial science is an essential aspect of Borouge’s social responsibility and commitment to develop the national manpower within the local community,” said Salem Al Qamzi Senior Vice President Administration Group at Borouge. “Sponsoring this Award goes in parallel with our corporate Emiratisation programme which encourages UAE national talent to join the petrochemicals industry and enhance their educational and professional skills in industry.”
Al Qamzi pointed out that Borouge also enhances and cooperates with the communities in which it operates by supporting health, safety, environment and education related activities. Borouge also awards annual scholarships to high performing postgraduate and undergraduate students in Asia within the field of polymer sciences and engineering.
The Abu Dhabi Industry Award is a unique initiative that was first launched in 2004 by industry leaders and executives who are members of the HCT’s Programme Advisory Committees. The Award is usually conducted at the end of the academic year to recognize the graduates of the previous academic year. It covers all the HCT male and female graduates from all the 16 campuses across the UAE. Graduates are selected from programmes offered by the HCT in specific academic divisions such as Applied Communications, Business, Education, Engineering Technology, Health Sciences and Information Technology.
Cash prizes are awarded annually to top HCT graduates, selected for their overall academic performance in their professional programme specializations according to their grade point average (GPA), graduation project, attendance record and contribution to college activities and the community. More than 250 outstanding graduates have been recognized by the UAE industry leaders since the Abu Dhabi Industry Awards was initiated in 2004.
