Emerging as a global leader in the development of petrochemicals and plastics industry in the UAE and the Gulf region, Borouge, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, will participate for the second successive year as a Platinum Sponsor at the 11th Arab International Plastics & Rubber Industry Trade Show (Arabplast) due to be held at Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Dubai from January 7-10, 2013.
The petrochemical industry in the GCC region has become a major investment opportunity for the Gulf states as they set to become the world's largest source of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). According to the latest statistics, the PE production capacities in the GCC countries are expected to increase from 10.7 million tonnes in 2009 to 21.5 million tonnes by 2015, while the production of PP is expected to rise from 4.8 million tonnes in 2009 to 9.5 million tonnes by 2015. This will bring the combined production capacities of the two major polyolefin resins to over 31 million tonnes by 2015.
At Arabplast 2013, Borouge will be demonstrating its wide range portfolio of innovative plastics solutions for infrastructure, automotive and advanced packaging at a dedicated display stand that occupies a space of more than 300sm in Hall 7. Being one of the major sponsors of Arabplast in which plastics companies are aggressively competing to promote their products and technologies, Borouge will showcase its latest PE and PP innovative solutions for a wide range of pipe, wire and cable, film, fibre and moulding applications in addition to highlighting its contribution in addressing major global challenges such as climate change, food protection, water, energy, communication and healthcare.
“Arabplast provides us with a unique opportunity to strengthen our global presence, communicate with our customers and key industrial stakeholders and reinforce our leading role in the Middle East plastics industry,” said Hussain Sultan Lootah Senior Vice President Middle East Africa at Borouge. “We will present our innovative plastics solutions and the investments we are making to highlight our strong commitment to the Middle East and Asia regions. The increasing size of the Arabplast exhibition this year reflects the robust global plastics demand and the fast growth of the Middle East markets and is an ideal opportunity for us to promote our innovative solutions that contribute to making people’s lives safer, better and more comfortable.”
Lootah highlighted the business growth Borouge is experiencing in terms of production and market growth. Already producing 2 million tonnes of PE and PP per year, Borouge’s petrochemical complex in Ruwais is expanding its capacity under the ‘Borouge 3’ project to reach 4.5 million tonnes by mid-2014 to serve the Middle East and Asian markets.
“In the Middle East, there are still many infrastructure opportunities that require our solutions particularly in the pipe and wire and cable sectors. We also see increasing demand for highly engineered polyolefins for infrastructure systems compared to traditional materials, due to the light weight, environmental and other advantages of plastics,” said Lootah.
“With the significant capacity coming on stream at the end of 2013 and the opening of our new Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi, we will also dramatically expand our business in film and fibre and moulding applications in the advanced packaging and healthcare markets.”
A variety of innovative plastics solutions will be put on display at Borouge stand at Arabplast 2013 including samples of different sizes of PE100 pipes for industrial infrastructure applications as well as PE and PP films and agriculture and geomembrane film rolls. In addition, the stand will include samples of thin wall packaging caps and closures and machinery demonstrations of blown film and injection moulding, samples of low, medium and high voltage power cables made from Borouge’s cross-linkable polyethylene (XLPE) using the Borlink™ technology, as well as exterior and interior car body parts.
Arabplast is one of the most important plastics trade shows in the Middle East which will bring together top leading polyolefin producers, manufacturers, suppliers and convertors from over 47 countries, including the UAE and the GCC countries, to showcase their latest technologies in manufacturing plastics and introduce the track market trends of the Middle East plastics and rubber industry.
Borouge was established in 1998 as a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Austria based Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions. It is a groundbreaking international partnership at the forefront of the next generation of plastics innovation.
