Borouge, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, signed a partnership agreement with the China University of Petroleum (CUP) Beijing extending the coverage of Borouge’s sponsorship programme to five Chinese universities. The 3-year partnership agreement was signed by Wim Roels, CEO of Borouge’s Marketing & Sales Company, and Zhang Laibin, President of CUP Beijing. The signing ceremony took place during the first day of the 2013 Chinaplas international plastics industry exhibition being held from May 20-23, 2013 in Guangzhou.
“Borouge has a long history of sponsoring sustainable social and educational initiatives in the communities where we operate,” said Wim Roels. “Signing this sponsorship agreement with the CUP Beijing is in line with our global commitment to attract and develop qualified scientific talents in the chemical industry across Asia.”
Through its scholarship programme that was launched in 2009, Borouge started to establish partnerships with leading Asian universities focusing on chemical and polymer science, engineering and technology, especially in China. The scholarships are awarded annually to the high performing postgraduate and undergraduate students who are selected based on their academic performance.
The new partnership agreement signed with the CUP Beijing is the seventh scholarship that Borouge provides to Asian universities. Apart from the recent CUP Beijing, scholarships are provided to South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai, Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai, India, Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India, Yangzhou University in China and Beijing University of Chemical Technology in China.
Borouge was established in 1998 as a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Austria based Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions.
