Celebrations held during Borouge’s Innovation Day and Annual Party
Borouge, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, honoured 56 employees from different regions and functions for generating innovative ideas that contributed to the Company’s business development. Borouge also recognised another 57 long service employees and senior officials who worked at Borouge with full dedication for 10-15 years and those who completed a total work experience in this field for 15-35 years.
The winners and runners-up of the Borouge Innovation Awards were announced during the Company’s Innovation Day celebration held at Jumeirah Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi on 14 April 2014. They were given their awards during the Company’s Annual Party held on the same day where the long service employees were also recognised as a gesture of appreciation and encouragement for their hard work and commitment. Both ceremonies brought together Borouge’s higher management and senior officials and other guest speakers including Mahdi Ali, Head Coach of the UAE national football team, and Faisal Al Alawi, Subsea Facilities Integrity Manager at ZADCO.

These solutions address the major challenges faced by society and strengthen Borouge’s commitment to sustainability and its role in supporting the diversification of the national economy.”
Alhajri added that Borouge’s innovation team has recently begun operating from the new Abu Dhabi Innovation Centre. This will enhance the Company’s innovation capabilities to meet the increasingly demanding requirements of the plastics industry and to further develop the competence of polymer science in the UAE.
Borouge’s innovation awards have been granted to individuals and groups of employees whose inspiring innovative ideas and talents have made a significant difference in the success of the Company during 2013. Started in 2009 with two-category awards, the scope of Borouge’s Innovation Awards was developed to cover five categories this year:
- Innovator of the Year – Operations
- Innovator of the Year – Customer Solution
- Idea of the Year
- Cooperation Award
- Business and Service Innovation Award
A total of 56 employees received their awards under these five main categories (28 winners and 28 runners-up – five winners and five runners-up in each category, except for the Cooperation Award which was granted to eight winners and eight runners-up).
As a guest speaker at the ceremony, Mahdi Ali, coach of the UAE national football team, addressed the celebration of Borouge’s Innovation Day where he shared his exciting journey in sports as a player and as a coach. “My experience taught me that achieving success in sports and in any other stream of life requires serious determination, hard work, dedication and creative minds. Working as a team, triggering the innovative areas of your ways of thinking and focusing on the techniques that enhance your performance and sharpen your skills are the best ways that enable you to achieve your goals in life.”
Expressing his excitement over winning an award under the ‘Business and Service Innovation Award’ category, Naser Zaid H. Al Omaira, Department Manager of Site Production Planning at Borouge, said “The Business and Service Innovation Award is a new category added to Borouge Innovation Awards to recognise the creative and outstanding work that improves the efficiency, cost and quality of our Borouge business activities .I am happy and proud to be part of the winning team under this category. With creative and out-of-box thinking we delivered optimised supply chain process, ensured cost savings and responded to global challenges and demands by significantly reducing road transportation of raw materials. The key issues addressed through innovation include energy/fuel savings, reduced carbon footprint and higher productivity and asset utilisation.With the strong growing culture of innovation at Borouge, I see that the only limit is our imagination.”
A total of 57 Borouge employees and senior officials were also honoured during the Annual Party for their long service at the Company. The honoured included 33 employees who worked for Borouge for over 10 years, 10 employees who served the Company for more than 15 years, four employees who worked for over 20 years, four employees for over 25 years, one employee for over 30 years and one employee for over 35 years of service. The list of honoured employees also included four employees who were supposed to be honoured last year and could not attend the ceremony.
Borouge was established in 1998 as a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Austria based Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions. It is a groundbreaking international partnership at the forefront of the next generation of plastics innovation.
