Abu Dhabi, UAE – 7 May 2018: Borouge, a leading petrochemical company in providing innovative, value creating plastics solutions, highlighted its contribution to plastics sustainable development and continuous commitment to meeting the high standards of HSE performance at the 2nd Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) Responsible Care® Conference held in Dubai from 6-8 May 2018.

Held under the theme ‘Responsible Care - The Competitive Advantage’, the Conference is a key platform for Borouge to bring one of its core values ‘RESPONSIBLE’ to life in line with its efforts to strengthen its brand position of ‘INSPIRING TOMORROW’. The event provides an opportunity for Borouge to highlight its Responsible Care projects and achievements throughout all of its operations and marketing activities locally, regionally and globally.

“As the first company in the Gulf region to sign the Responsible Care® Global Charter in 2006 together with Borealis, Borouge has proved to be a pioneer in ensuring commitment to the highest criteria of health, safety and environment principles across the whole organisation,” said Ahmed Omar Abdulla, CEO of Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge). “The many Responsible Care certifications and awards which Borouge has received throughout the years reflect the significance and recognition of our corporate responsibility and represent our continuous commitment to ensuring that we have an integrated and structured company.”

“Responsible Care is a continuous journey, and we pride ourselves that the journey we and the regional industry collectively embarked upon in December 2009 has proven to be so successful in enhancing our reputation as ‘responsible manufacturers’ on the global stage.”

“All Responsible Care elements are incorporated into the Borouge Management System and are reflected in the Borouge Sustainability Policy echoing our commitment to the development of society, the environment and the economy,” said Hussain Al Hammadi, Vice President of Corporate HSE at Borouge. “In addition to pursuing excellence in everything we do and ensuring to reflect the Responsible Care elements in our production and operation areas, we also went the extra mile by developing Responsible Sourcing as part of our procurement initiatives.”

“Ensuring safety at workplaces and sending our employees home safe every day is and has always been our first priority at Borouge,” he stressed.

Borouge was the first company in the Gulf region to be awarded the internationally recognised Responsible Care® RC 14001 certification in September 2013 for its entire global operations across the Middle East and Asia. With this highly recognised industry accreditation, Borouge became the first company in the Gulf region to have all its international operations certified.

In 2015, Borouge also received the ‘Best Responsible Care Project’ Award from GPCA for introducing an efficient change of transporting hazardous raw chemical materials from land to sea, contributing to a traffic reduction on some of the busiest roads in Abu Dhabi, saving costs and reducing CO2 emissions.
