[Shanghai, China] – 24 April 2024: Borouge Plc (“Borouge” or “the Company”) (ADX symbol: BOROUGE / ISIN: AEE01072B225), a leading petrochemical company that provides innovative and differentiated polyolefin solutions, accelerates in its efforts to drive sustainable solutions through innovation and active collaboration, highlighting the company’s developments at Chinaplas 2024.

Under the company’s theme of ‘Enabling A More Sustainable Future, Today’, Borouge focuses on key topics such as durable infrastructure solutions, circularity and enabling green energy, showcasing its latest projects that support the industry’s evolving demands.

Rainer Hoefling, Chief Executive Officer, Borouge Pte Ltd said, “Our expanding portfolio of innovative products complements the strong relationships with our value chain partners and customers in this region. This is instrumental in our pursuit to cater to the needs of differentiated sectors such as energy and infrastructure and ramp up our circular economy offerings. Borouge is committed to developing innovative and high-quality solutions, leveraging digitalisation and artificial intelligence technologies to facilitate the launch of new polymer products that will address major global challenges and promote growth in sustainable and durable products for the communities.”

Enhancing Everyday Lives

The company continues its accelerated efforts towards circularity, developing several successful consumer solutions that promote a lower carbon footprint, through its growing network of recycling companies and strong value chain collaboration.

A new addition to Borouge’s portfolio of sustainable packaging solutions, is an Air Capsule developed with a leading global FMCG company, that aims to reduce excessive packing materials in the e-commerce industry. The innovative solution, which incorporates 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) polyethylene, delivers exceptional performance without compromising on packaging integrity due to the high-quality recycled resins from Borouge.

Next-generation Anteo™ and Borealis’ Borstar® to boost circularity and performance

Borouge is proud to debut the Anteo™ FK1510, its first outstanding second-generation single site catalysed polyethylene (SS-PE) product, at Chinaplas. The new Anteo™ FK1510 represents a step change in film toughness compared to the current, first-generation products in the market. Due to its bimodal polymer design, Anteo™ FK1510 retains outstanding processability and superior sealing performance, enabling customers to expand its range of flexible packaging applications with the added benefits of running processing and converting lines quicker and with more efficiency.

Anteo™ FK1510 is an excellent option for mono-material structures, with boosted impact and sealing properties suitable for Designed for Recycling (DfR) applications. It will encourage the industry to substitute non-recyclable multi-material structures to allow 100% recycling capabilities.

In addition, Borouge will show its comprehensive range of circular solutions targeted towards incorporating recycled material, applications designed for recyclability and products featuring renewable polyolefins, Bornewables™. These include heavy-duty homeware made with PCR material, and mono-material solutions such as a full polyethylene high-oxygen barrier laminate and a full polyethylene metallised film featuring Borouge’s performance polyethylene Borstar® FB5600.

Innovative solutions for modern communities

Produced using advanced Borstar® Nucleation Technology (BNT) from Borealis, the newly launched Borstar® RA150E is the latest infrastructure solution designed for water piping applications delivering hot and cold water to homes, engineered to provide optimum balance of stiffness, toughness and processability. Borouge will also showcase its complete PE100-RC portfolio comprising HE3490-LS-H, HE3492-LS-H and HE3490-ELS-H, the next generation of PE100 materials exhibiting exceptional slow crack resistance for polyethylene pressure pipes.

“Collaboration is critical to advancing the company’s growth plans to support China’s sustainability roadmap. We aim to encourage more engagement within the value chain and with our customers, develop solutions that can create value and deliver high-quality products for the advancement in the fields of infrastructure, energy, automotive and consumer solutions sectors to contribute to the national climate agenda,” commented Jianwei Dong, Senior Vice President, Asia North, Borouge.

Powering a Sustainable Future

Borouge is increasing efforts towards delivering energy safely and sustainably, focusing on advanced solutions for renewable energy resources and enabling electrification. The Borealis Borlink™ LS4201S, produced at Borouge’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities at Al Ruwais, United Arab Emirates, is an industry-leading cross-linked PE solution that supports clean energy transmission in the energy sector, making a safe and reliable choice for offshore wind projects that facilitate the renewable energy transition globally.

Borouge will also showcase its expanding portfolio of electrification solutions that is being developed to enhance applications that enable clean energy. These include applications such as Lithium-ion Battery separator, Lithium-ion Battery pouch cell aluminium-laminate and solar floating pontoon. Through co-development with industry partners, Borouge is committed to advancing new product innovation to accelerate its customers’ electrification goals, further driving the company’s sustainability agenda.

Mobility highlights include polypropylene short glass fibre filled recycled compounded solutions that have been designed to provide lightweighting and circularity benefits for the automotive sector. A key product showcase is a polypropylene compound that incorporates 40% PCR content, suitable for structural interior automotive parts, and delivers similar mechanical performance compared to virgin products, but with improved carbon emissions impact. These products, produced at Borouge’s Compounding Manufacturing Plant in Shanghai, are designed to incorporate a range of 25% to 70% recycled materials and can achieve up to 32% reduction in carbon footprint compared to virgin grades.

Borouge recently announced that its Borouge 4 project is on track to be completed by the end of 2025, which will make Borouge’s Al Ruwais production site the world’s largest single-site polyolefin complex, boosting production capacity to 6.4 million tonnes. This will further enhance Borouge’s capabilities to cater to key major markets such as China, with vital materials that contribute to critical sectors and major renewable energy projects.

Chinaplas 2024 takes place from 23 – 26 April. Borouge is located at Booth 6.2C32 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai, China.
