Borcoat Coating Systems for Steel Pipelines

Steel pipelines are used for transport of natural gas, crude oil, petrochemicals and water at high pressure over long distances. These high value pipelines need to be protected against corrosion by external coating systems and cathodic protection.

Five alternatives coating systems are commonly specified for pipelines:

  • Three components PE
  • Three components PP
  • Fusion bonded epoxy
  • Coal tar
  • Asphalt enamel and polyurethane

Most strongly dominant worldwide is the three component PE coating system and the three components PP and multi component PP system are more recognized as the excellent system for onshore and offshore projects.

Borouge offers three main polyolefin based systems:

  • Borcoat™ High Density polyethylene system, for operating temperatures from –45°C to +90 °C
  • Borcoat™  Polypropylene  systems  for  operating  temperature  up  to   +110°C
  • Borcoat™ PP insulated systems for offshore projects, for operating temperature up to +140°C
