Ruwais, Abu Dhabi
The petrochemical production plant in Ruwais, about 250km west of Abu Dhabi City in the United Arab Emirates, is central to the operations of Borouge. Following the successful start-up of the Borouge 3 project in 2015, the site in Ruwais is now the world’s largest integrated polyolefins complex, with a production capacity of 4.5 million tonnes. Today, Borouge and Borealis have a combined annual production capacity of approximately 8 million tonnes of polyethylene and polypropylene. The total annual capacity of 4.5 million tonnes includes:
- 2,300,000 tonnes of polyethylene per year
- 1,760,000 tonnes of polypropylene per year
- 350,000 tonnes of low density polyethylene per year, supporting our cross-linkable polyethylene (XLPE) compounding facility
