Borealis Borstar® medium-density polyethylene (mdpe)

Borealis Borstar®, a state-of-the-art multi-modal proprietary technology owned by Borealis, is at the core of Borouge’s innovation. The Borstar® technology supports the production of a wide range of enhanced PE and PP products for the most demanding applications by enabling tailor-made solutions through flexible design. The Borstar® process offers simultaneous improvements in conversion economics as well as key environmental aspects such as energy efficiency and raw material recycling.

Borstar® is recognised with its improved processability and mechanical properties and shorter cycle times for customers offering them competitive advantages. The technology ensures low energy consumption and leading circular economy performance, in addition to attractive economics for customers.

The Borstar® technology is based on a dual reactor process for bimodal production that yields broad molecular weight distribution while also providing a balance of processability and mechanical strength.

Borstar® MDPE resins are used in applications such as stand-up pouches (SUP) and heavy duty shipping sacks (HDSS). They are ideal grades for machine directed orientation (MDO) PE substrate films for PE and PE-fully recyclable laminates.
